Nothing deep…
It’s been a busy time…last weekend I took a trip with a good friend to Forks, Washington. Forks is the setting for the Twilight series–books and movies.
Last year when the Twilight movie came out, I’d heard very little about it and had almost no interest. I barely realized it was based on a book series. I remember seeing lots of Flair on Facebook about Edward Cullen and other Twilight characters, but I didn’t get it.
My friend Janell wanted to see the movie since so much of it was filmed in Oregon…I’m always up for a girls night out, so I went. I enjoyed the movie, and really couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
It took a while, but I finally gave in and thought I’d read the books, or at least try it. I borrowed Twilight from a friend and started it. Since I’d seen the movie, I knew basically what happened so it took me a day or two to get into it.
But once I did get into it…wow. I was caught. I was able to nab New Moon from the library, and wasn’t patient enough to wait for Eclipse or Breaking Dawn, so I bought those. All in all, I read the whole series in 12 days…Breaking Dawn is 750 pages and I read it in under 24 hours (and believe it or not did not neglect my girls during that time, haha!).
The books are amazing. Really and truly.
So when the chance came up for a trip to Forks, I jumped at it. I needed a little vacation before school starts for me, and why not head up there? My friend Alli and I made plans to go in September, and when I looked into if I found out there would be a special celebration on September 12-13. Bella, who is the main character in the books, has her birthday on September 13, and this year was the 2nd annual “Stephenie Meyer Days” celebrated on that weekend (she’s the author of the books). So, there were all sorts of special events going on.
Call me a nerd, but I had a BLAST. And trust me, I am actually on the lower end of “fandom” for Twilight. It was AMAZING the things that had been “Twilight-ized” in that town. Tourism is BOOMING in this little 3000 person town. We saw Chinese restaurants with Twilight posters in the windows; Bella/Jacob/Edward sandwiches, coffee, chocolate; even Twilight FIREWOOD. A few days after I got home, I read an article http://www.newmoonmovie.org/2009/09/driving-like-a-cullen-will-get-you-a-speeding-ticket/ stating that people are purposefully getting doing illegal things so they can get a ticket from the Forks Police Department…really, people?!
Ok, so I had a blast, but I’m not a total nut. I spent more money on silly souvenirs than I should have, but figure I don’t do things like that often at all…and did I mention it was fun?!
In this album are some pictures of my trip: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=113580&id=511290818&l=5427e5dcb4
And truly…if you haven’t read these books, check them out!
we moved!
I’m exhausted but thought I’d post something real quick before I hit the sack. We moved this weekend! We’ve been in a 2 bedroom duplex, and moved into a 3 bedroom house. I LOVE the space, and the girls do too. We spent the day yesterday moving…I’m almost completely unpacked and settled. I really enjoy unpacking and setting stuff up in new places. It’s fun! I have a few things to do in Kiandra’s room tomorrow, and most of my room, and a couple small boxes of random things in the kitchen. Maybe in a couple days after it’s completely done I’ll take some pictures to post.
Tomorrow we’ll work on getting the old place all cleaned…hopefully I’ll get most of that deposit back!
hope to post something a bit “deeper” sometime soon, but we’ll see!
