Nine for ‘09

I set out intending to choose my 9 favorite photos from the year. That is quite a bit harder than I expected! I can’t do it. No way. So, I decided to choose 9 defining moments from the year, and then 9 other favorites. Sorry for the overload of photo goodness on this post!
The Defining Moments
Fence, laughing at memories collected as a surprise for his 30th.
The girls, hand in hand, are the best of friends.
Add Little Man to the mix, and all three have endless hours of fun! It was about at the time of this
photo (late May, nearly his 1st birthday) that the three of them really began to enjoy
being together as a three-some. The hilarity and volume of their laughter has only
multiplied since then (so has the yelling and squabbling…but those are far out-weighed by the laughter).
Ok, so strawberry picking isn’t really a defining moment. But see the look on her face? It is defining.
That is sweet, sour, and our little Maly Malin ready to turn three and take on all previous
conceptions of what it means to be sugar and spice. She’s darling. Gorgeous. And fiery.
Defined by ice cream? Not so much as the mess and the cuteness.
T started Kindergaten in September as nearly the youngest in her class (if not the youngest).
She’s excelling and enjoying it quite a bit, even declaring Wednesday–the formerly dreaded
day of school–her favorite day of school. Apparently gym class really isn’t that bad.
Family “portrait” 2009. This craziness is what our family is about. Fun. Goofy. Happy together.
Baby #4 has arrived! S turned our family of 5 into a family of 6 on November 28.
Great moments, don’t ya think?
(and now I’ll have to leave the rest for another post…
this is long, and I’m ready to sneak in some sleep before the sweet baby wakes up again).
Dear Baby

Seems like this weekend is a good birthing weekend. I’ve had contractions all week. Tonight I lost some plug (because I KNOW you all wanted to know that. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re a male and don’t want to know. Don’t google it unless you are prepared to be grossed out about your sister or daughter.) Labor is coming. One of these days.
I’m also feeling like pregnancy could last forever. I mean, I’ve been at this for 270-some days already. It’s grown on me, in more than one sense. I always feel like this at the end (well, not with T, but she was surprisingly early at 38 weeks. by now, I just *am* pregnant. It’s my state of existence. Like I’ve forgotten what is to not be pregnant). Ok, I’m nuts. What pregnant woman isn’t a bit nuts by 39 weeks? Even though I’m trying my hardest, I’m sure the crabbiness is creeping out, too.
Anyway, all signs that yes, labor is coming. This baby will be born sooner than later. I will not actually spend the rest of my life pregnant, wearing sweats and my husband’s shirts because nothing I have fits anymore and it’s crazy talk to buy more maternity clothes when I have weeks left (it’s been weeks since my clothes stopped fitting).
Only it seems that contractions have faded. Lame-O. I don’t like labor, don’t get me wrong. But contractions, as wicked as they are, get you something wonderful in the end. A baby! And the pain is nearly gone as soon as said baby leaves my body. So, I’m telling myself over and over tonight that labor is really *not* going to last forever, and the intense squeezing of my uterus is really *not* going to wring me half, and once I feel like it will, it will all be over soon anyway. Good? Good. Pep talk complete.
Now enjoy the “Dear Baby”.

I realized I haven’t posted the most recent of the little Sprout. Fence took this shot a few weeks ago (ack! nearly a month ago!) when we were in Rochester.

Now that I’m 30 weeks, this must have been at about 26 or 27 weeks.

Does anyone know how to really spell that word? Hmmmm… or what it really means, if anything?
Anyway, these are some of the things we’ve done in the last week. I went on a photo-taking venture all on my own! I shot a whole roll of 120 black and white film on the old Yashica again, hoping for better results this time. My Canon came with me, and captured boats on the lake.

Dockside

25.5 weeks
Apparently it has been awhile since my last belly shot (well, just about a month). Here it is, as of Tuesday! People keep asking me when I’m due, then react with shock when they realize I’m not popping this boy out next week. Not yet, folks. I tell them, “This is baby #4, so I pop early.” So far, no questions about twins!

Hot Wheels
Is there a child anywhere who doesn’t enjoy sending cars racing down a ramp? I remember the crazy race track my bro had as a kid, and the hours we’d spent building it and racing cars on it…or sailing them down the stairway. And if I remember the story right, Fence and his brother at one time sent a whole load of Hot Wheels sailing off an apartment balcony as kids.
Don’t we all have stories involving Hot Wheels?

Sassy!
If only these rain boots were in my size! Aren’t they great? This was the first day T wore them, since we didn’t get much rain during the spring this year. They suit her well, I think.

I admit, I turned around for a minute just as the bath water was turned on, and the next, here he is, sitting in the tub getting wet in his diaper and onesie. Fence grabbed the camera for me…as I couldn’t resist a photo capturing how much this guy really does love his bath! He asks for them, gets in when he’s ready…maybe it’ll last through puberty? A mama can dream, right?

Rub a Dub Dub
Pretty soon they’ll outgrow each other in the tub…but for now, they love splashing and playing together!
Right now I really should be menu-planning for next week and month (yes, I try to plan a whole month…makes things so much easier!), but I figured updating the ol’ Fence Post was more fun. Hopefully soon I can share news that my first nephew is born! He’s due today!
“We just need another boy…”

Says the 4 year old. What a different child she is than I was at the same age! I clearly remember NOT wanting a brother, ever. But T really wants a second brother, “so G has a brother to play with, because I have M” and “then we’ll have two princes when we play Prince and Princess”. Can a 4 year old be any cuter than that?
Today was the 20wk ultrasound, to check on the heart and spine and brain, etc. We have always found out what gender the baby would be during the ultrasounds. After all, a surprise is a surprise, whether it’s at 20 weeks or 40!
And, well, we’re having another boy! We’re very excited!
