Nature Love

Just a quick post for now…and more updates of what we’ve been up to later! This is T, holding a tadpole! Would any of you have guessed that T would be the one who loves to be in touch (literally!) with nature? She has loved our visits to the river, catching and holding tadpoles, and even having a butterfly land on her hand!
So Long, Sheatree

Day 2 of the packing is here. Boxes are packed all around us. Somehow, it probably still won’t feel “real” until the moving truck pulls out of the neighborhood tomorrow. Yesterday was overwhelming…took some time to decompress with art. Art of the digital kind.
Air Time

The Comedian likes movement. He likes to be thrown in the air, swung overhead, swung side to side…and he likes to swing on the playground swings. His first time was today! The grin in the photos (nearly) says it all. If only photos could record laughter! He was full of giggles; it was so fun.
2years + boy = pure energy

I’d be kidding to tell you I have better shots of Little Man lately. He’s too quick! Not only does he have a love for the shutter (always wanting to “pooosh button!” or “pooosh–it”—which by the way, sounds quite a bit like “bull sh**” and is really funny), but he is always just on the move. But it’s great. I love watching him grow, explore, play, and develop quite a spirited personality.
Little Man, I can hardly believe how fast time has gone since you decided it was finally time to meet us, just one day before you were due. It was the most incredible feeling in the world, reaching down to help you enter the world, then snuggling you and smelling your sweet newborn head. Daddy and I fell in love with you instantly. Ever since then, you’ve delighted everyone and warmed our hearts.
(Sure, you’re good at the screaming part of being two, but who can blame you? It’s just not fair you can’t climb the ladder to the top bunk and then jump off.)
In the last year, you’ve grown so much. You learned to walk, without help. It wasn’t until after you were steady on your feet that you’d let Mama or Daddy hold your hands (only sometimes and never in public) as you took steps. You quickly learned how to climb, scale the stairs, and run. Just recently you learned to jump, and it’s one of your favorite things to do! You may not jump high yet, but you get enough power in those jumps to shake the floor and walls already.
Every day we are amazed with your grasp of language! You’ve always been a chatter-box (or chatter-pants as T says it), and now that you’re learning real words, it’s no different. Stringing words together in sentences is easy for you, and you even throw in some of your own language at times to tell stories to whomever will listen. You especially like to talk on the phone. With your grasp of language is your incredible memory for lyrics–each night I sing “Snuggle Puppy” to you, and often you sing with me. Truly, those are some of my favorite parts of the day (yes, even when you’re still up and singing loudly at 9:05pm).
Just this week you discovered baseball, thanks to the gift from a neighbor–her grandson’s tee-ball set. What a swing you have! I think you’re a natural…and now that you have a baseball glove, too, you’ll be running the bases in no time!
Little Man, we have loved watching you become a big brother. Not a day has gone by without you loving on your little brother. Even though you called him Jack for a few months, we could tell you adore him. I can’t wait to see you play together as you both grow up.
One more thing; you LOVE to drum. Besides carrying your blankets around, you nearly always have two straws in your hands, which you use as drum sticks on everything and anything. Don’t tell anyone, but maybe we really will have a drum set in the house, for you to play. But shhhh…it’s our secret. You just keep those straws going and get some good rhythm and a beat…
I love you, Little Man!!
Plein Air

Several months ago, I read this post on the Pioneer Woman’s site about painting outside. She said it’s called “plein air” painting, because you go outside in the open air and paint. Fun, right? Ever since I read it, I wanted to do it with the kids.
M started out with grass and tree colors, then decided to go for “magenta splatters.” I love it.
I painted what I could see in our yard.
So did T. I like her different vision.
She added the sun, and another yellow ball to the same scene.
It was a really fun way to spend 30 minutes outside…and I think we’ll definitely try to do it again soon!
