You may remember me saying I was going to focus on a different color each month in my photography. Well, March is green. Here in CNY we’re still covered in about 6 inches of snow, but, oh so slowly, it’s melting away. One of these days I’ll get 5 minutes of free time to go outside and take some photos of the daffodils poking up through the ground. Until then, it’s indoor green.
Because I felt a need to be creative, I dug into some new digital scrapping stash that I downloaded from “Digital Artist Magazine” and created. Some of the stash was older and yet unused. Ah, it was good to make pretty pixels.
Love. Eyes. Scrapped.

This is why it’s so hard to get sweet shots of them lately. They’re just so silly. But silly is fun, and we’ve been having fun around here.
We also had two showings on the house this weekend, so instead of taking pictures and blogging, we’ve been in super-clean mode. I haven’t even cooked dinner. Tomorrow we can start living like normal again, at least until Saturday when we have to prep for an open house!

Silly and Sweet
Did you know yesterday was Dr. Seuss’ birthday? We have quite the collection of Seuss books here, so I decided it would be fun to celebrate and do goofy things that are based on the books. Yesterday, we painted pictures and added fish like “One Fish Two Fish”, and even created a “ring the Gack” game. Today, I figured, why not keep it up? It’s Wednesday! Let’s read “Wacky Wednesday” and be wacky. We wore hats backwards. T put scarves on, and wrapped one around her nose. We painted our toenails two colors, and made a delicious afternoon snack, which we call “wacky snack.” Good times! The boys were taking a blissfully long nap this afternoon, too (wacky), so the girls and I did it all without them interrupting or making messes!
Popcorn, peanuts, raisins, peanut butter chips, m&m’s, and pumpkin seeds, covered in white chocolate. Yum.

Red and “always amethyst” toe nails. What fun! Wacky Wednesday might become a tradition around here.

Last month we took our first family of 6 photo. Not a week after that, I read on Tara Whitney’s blog (one of my favorites!) that she is taking photos of her family of 6 each month. She called it “6 People 12 Times.” Of course I had to jump on that and decided to do it here, too. So what if the photos aren’t perfect? They’ll be perfect in our crazy and wacky and disorderly imperfection. They’ll be perfect because they will be pictures of all us together, being real. Yes, I’m still planning to get a super photog to take some photos of us at some point this year, but even those photos will be of us being real. No formal posed “Olan Mills” type shots for us. We much prefer the natural and candid and often hilarious shots. Anyone can pose with kids sitting on knees and hands on shoulders. Not everyone can look silly in the way we can look silly. That’s the fun of it, and what will make all these photos so special. They’ll be uniquely “Fence”.
Here’s yesterday’s shot, and the February take for my own 6 people 12 times.
Here is last month’s shot: “We are 6.”
Yesterday was one of those days around here that made Fence and I feel a little wacky…aside from trying to take photos of all 6 of us. I mean, we got up, went to Mass and sat three rows from the front, enjoyed the kids behaving fairly well…Then he took the girls on a little date for breakfast and shopping. I hung out with the boys, cooking (who would’ve guessed?) and chasing G’s wildly drumming self around the house. Then Fence and the girls were home, and the lovely morning turned into a chaotic afternoon. All 4 kids were behaving strangely, screaming, acting out. More than the normal, anyway. Then we were getting dinner ready, with everyone helping! It was so fun to have all of us in the kitchen working on dinner! Okay, the boys didn’t do anything…but G wasn’t causing havoc at the time, so it was good. I taught the girls how to peel carrots, which they did while I cooked mac’n cheese and Fence prepped a salad. I was about to grab the camera to capture this blissful time, when M said, “Aaah! What happened to my finger?” I look, to see blood running down her finger. “Oh, you must have peeled your finger instead of the carrot! Ouch!” Yeah…she did. Forget the blissful kitchen time. Take her hand and rinse the finger with a damp paper towel, then go get a band-aid and neosporin. All’s well again. Thankfully, she didn’t peel much off and wasn’t too bothered by it. From then out, it was crazy antic after crazy antic from the kids. One minute they’re sweet, the next they’re howling at the moon. Crazies.
And now for another dose of reality
